Saree,Sari or Shari is a female garment from the Indian subcontinent that
consists of a drape varying from five to nine yards (4. 5 metres to 8 metres)
in length and two to four feet (60 cm to 1. 20 m) in breadth that is typically
wrapped around the waist, with one end draped over the shoulder, baring the
midriff. There are various styles of sari draping, the most common being the
actual Nivi style.
The sari is
usually worn over a petticoat as well as Shaya , with a fitted upper garment
commonly called a blouse (choli elsewhere). The blouse has short sleeves and is
usually cropped at the midriff. The saree is associated with grace and it is
widely regarded as a symbol of grace in cultures of Indian subcontinent as well
as Bangladesh.

In
Bangladesh, Dhakai Moslin and Jamdani was very famous fashion from period of
Mughol Empire. In that period Dhakai Moslin sarees and cloths were the symbol
of aristocracy. Only member from the royal / elite family consume Dhakai Moslin
as their dress. During the British empire in the Indian subcontinent The East
India company earn huge currency by exporting muslin from Bangladesh to all
over the world. Now Moslins is no more produce in that range in dhaka but few
family still make it. Long-standing peoples in Old Dhaka city precise that ,
when British leave the Indian subcontinent they cut the thumbs of Moslin
producer/weaver so that they forget to make muslin and British can sell their
own textiles to the world as well Indian subcontinent.
But dhakai
Jamdani saee is still producing in old Dhaka with its prominent name and sold
all over the Bangladesh as well as a very demandable product to the Women of
all over the world. Many of the Bangladeshi cultures are related to Dhakai
Jamdani Saree. Bangla new year, Marriage ceremony,
1st falgun
celebration remains infinite without a Jamdani to Bangali women now a days.
Generally a
weaver takes 3 to 10 days to make a Dhakai Jamdani and it is laborious and
precise work to make a Jamdani saree. Weavers at Demra of Old Dhaka are most
makig jamdani sarees. Also weavers at Narayanganj are making Jamdani Sarees.……………….
